We highly recommend the following
tools to keep your PC safe from hackers and virusses:
Zonelabs
Zone Alarm Pro
ZoneAlarm Pro is the award-winning PC firewall that keeps
your personal data and privacy safe from Internet hackers and data
thieves. ZoneAlarm Pro includes Cookie Control and Ad Blocking for
a faster, safer Internet experience.
ZoneAlarm Pro automatically blocks known and unknown Internet threats
for home users, small-business owners, and corporate employees working
remotely. It provides comprehensive, customizable settings that let
you tailor security controls to your exact needs. ZoneAlarm Pro monitors
outgoing application traffic as well as incoming traffic, protecting
you from any local applications attempting to use your Internet connection
to communicate with the outside world. You have the option to grant
and deny access on a per-application basis, customizing the protection
for your system. A unique signature integrity check insures that
imposters pretending to be a trusted application cannot get through.
ZoneAlarm Pro also offers password protection, automatic mobile PC
protection, and e-mail attachment protection for 37 different file
types, and it can control your security by blocking IP addresses
that run port scans.
ZoneAlarm features
online privacy protection with ad-blocking and cookie control features.
In addition,
it contains a Program Control
feature that allows users to determine which programs are allowed
to communicate with the Internet, thus preventing Trojan horse
programs from calling home and transmitting a user's
information or opening
a back door on the PC that a hacker can manipulate remotely.
The latest update adds a three-step network configuration
wizard for enhanced security protection, improvements
to existing features such as PrivacyAdvisor and AlertAdvisor,
and an enhanced exception list for Web sites.
Zonelabs also provide a free version of Zone Alarm

Lavasoft
Ad-Aware 6
While the Internet
is a powerful resource and provides users with many
useful and often entertaining things to see and do,
it also has its dark side.
Most people are familiar with freeware, shareware,
cookies, media players, interactive content, and
file sharing. What they may not realize is that
some of
the aforementioned may contain code or components
that allow the developers of these applications
and tools
to actually collect and disseminate information about
those using them.
They can track your surfing habits, abuse your Internet
connection by sending this data to a third party,
profile your shopping preferences, hijack your browser
start
page or pages, alter important system files, and
can do this without your knowledge or permission.
The security
and privacy implications of these exploits should
be quite obvious and undesirable on any system or
network!
Lavasoft Ad-aware
is THE award winning, multicomponent detection and
removal utility that has consistently lead
the industry in safety, user satisfaction, support and
reliability.
With its ability to comprehensively scan your memory, registry, hard, removable
and optical drives for known datamining, aggressive advertising, and tracking
components, Ad-aware will provide the user with the confidence to surf the Internet
knowing that their privacy will remain intact. Let Ad-aware protect your privacy.
Lavasoft also provide a free version of Ad-Aware 6

Microsoft® Baseline
Security Analyzer

As part of Microsoft's Strategic
Technology Protection Program, and in response to direct customer need for a
streamlined method of identifying common security misconfigurations,
Microsoft has developed the Microsoft Baseline Security
Analyzer (MBSA).
The
Microsoft® Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) is a tool
that allows users to scan one or more Windows®-based
computers for common security misconfigurations. The MBSA
will scan a Windows-based computer and check the operating
system and other installed components, such as Windows
2000 Server’s Internet Information Services (IIS)
and SQL Server™, for security misconfigurations and
whether or not they are up-to-date with respect to recommended
security updates.
More information on MSBA is available here.
